How to survey the site

Begin by sketching the outline of your garden. It doesn't have to be to scale, but use as large a piece of paper as you can. Then measure each feature in turn and mark the measurement clearly on the plan. Use a tape measure and pull it tight for accuracy.
Tip - metric measurements are easier to convert to a scale plan.
It may help to mark the measurements in a different colour from the sketch. If it becomes too crowded, do separate sketch-plans for different things.
